Hippos are awesome! If I were in a war and could choose a mount, a hippo would probably be a top candidate.
The one thing I'm kind of iffy about is the fact that the villains seem to be anthropomorphic animals, while the main good-guys are humans. That gives the story somewhat of a depressing feel for me.
